We have been back from Haiti for almost a week now. It is hard for me to put into words what the trip meant to our family. We knew that we would come back from our trip either really excited for the future or wondering what in the world we had gotten ourselves into! :) And maybe, just maybe, we are a little of both! The desire in our hearts to become fully funded and leave for Haiti has never been stronger. Because I don't have the words, here is our trip through pictures...
After flying to Ft Lauderdale and an overnight layover we finally arrived in Haiti! Most of us were running off only 3-4 hours of sleep, but we were excited to finally be in the country.
Heading over to La Gonave for part of the day! La Gonave is an island 12 miles off the coast of the mainland. It is home to over 120,000 Haitians. The trip to La Gonave takes roughly an hour and a half by boat.
We told Dan & Joy (the missionaries at the Ortlip Center) to put us to work!
We climbed up the ladder and painted the top of the roof to help with leaks in the roof and reduce the temperature inside. Have we mentioned it is HOT in Haiti?
And after a lot of hard-work.....we had to have a little fun!
Think back to one of your favorite trips or times in your life. Most of us have pictures that remind us of those times...but the pictures will never capture the emotions of those moments. The moments of good. The moments of bad. The moments where your heart is bursting. The moments where your heart is breaking. These pictures are no different. They will never fully capture how we felt, the things we did, and what we saw.
