FAQ:
Why Haiti? Bottom line....God told us to go there. It could not have been more clear....just short of Him sending us a postcard that read, "Dustin & Nancy, Go to Haiti. Love, God." If you haven't heard the story, ask us about it. You will be blown away!
When are y'all leaving? Great question! If it were up to us we would hop on a plane tomorrow. The sooner we get to Haiti, the better. Before we leave for Haiti we will have to go through GP's Missionary Training Institute (MTI). This is a three week training course that all missionaries must attend prior to leaving for their assigned country. MTI takes place in June, so there is no way we will be able to leave prior to then. Our target date is late July/early August.
What will keep you from leaving in July/August? We have a whole checklist of things we must complete prior to leaving - (acquiring VISA's, immunizations, 400 prayer partners, 100% funded, etc.) The biggest hurdle we face is raising up financial partners who want to join us in ministry.
What does it mean to be a prayer partner? You can become a prayer partner by committing to pray for our family once a week. We need people committed to lifting us up in prayer - for health, safety, ministry, etc. I read a quote once that read something like this - "Your ministry will only be as good as your prayer life." We NEED people praying for us! If you would like to join our team as a prayer partner please let us know! We would love to put your name down and send you a prayer card with our family picture and bio. Hang it up on your refrigerator, tape it to a mirror...place it wherever you will see it and remember to pray!
FINANCIAL
How much money do you have to raise? If this is something you want to know we would be more than happy to sit down with you and share our budget details. We have a three page budget form showing exactly how much we need and how we got to that number. As a finance person I appreciate that every dollar we need has a name!
What if I can only commit to giving $20 a month? We are absolutely thrilled with any amount that God lays on your heart to give! Whether you give $20 or $200, we are humbled and thankful for your generosity and willingness to partner with us. Every.Single.Dollar.Matters. (Mark 12:41-44: a wonderful biblical example of how no amount is too small)
Why should I give now when you aren't in Haiti yet? In order for us to go, we must be 100% funded. 25% of our budget needs to be already in our account as a cash balance. Just because we aren't in Haiti right now does not mean your money isn't helping further the Kingdom. Giving now gets us to Haiti faster - and we want to get there as fast as we possibly can!
PERSONAL
Did you grow up thinking you would be missionaries? Yes & no. God created us all to be missionaries. For some of us that means being a missionary at our school, workplace, or in our neighborhood....for others that means moving to other countries to be missionaries. Did we ever think God would ask us to become missionaries and move overseas? No :)...but God has a way of writing people's life stories bigger & better than we can even imagine.
Are you scared at all? Absolutely! God doesn't always ask us to do things that are easy & that require no sacrifice. We know that this journey/life will be hard. But we also know that God has called us to this. He doesn't just ask us to do things that are scary and then say, "good luck!" We know that He will be with us every single step of the way. The God that can move mountains is on our side and walking with us. I would be more scared to say "no" when He asks us to do something. Go check out Jonah's story in the Bible...Jonah 1-4. ;)
Are you excited? More than you even know! We absolutely cannot wait to get to Haiti! God has given us a passion and deep love for where we are going and the people there. We are ready to begin the work God has for us!
What does Ainsley think about all of this? She understands as much as she can for an almost 4 year old. She knows that we are missionaries and are going to tell people about Jesus. She likes to pray for the people of Haiti and asks us questions almost daily. Here are some of her questions: Is Haiti in Heaven? Who is going with us? Is there Christmas in Haiti? Will we fly there? Can I bring my movies (Salty the Songbook, Wreck it Ralph, etc)?
We will be adding more FAQ's as we think of them!
